THE OPPORTUNITY
South Adelaide is seeking expressions of interest from experienced, passionate, and progressive coaches for the position of NBL1 Women’s Head Coach for the 2026 season.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a program that has produced national representatives and WNBL talent, and to help shape the future direction of our senior women’s program.
The successful applicant will play a key role in leading the NBL1 Women’s team while also working closely with our U18 and Youth League coaches to create a clear and cohesive development pathway between juniors and our elite senior teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Team Leadership & Development

Design and deliver structured, high-performance training programs and game strategies

Lead all team activities, including training sessions, games, video reviews, and meetings
-
Develop a cohesive team culture built on accountability, resilience, and growth
-
Provide mentorship and guidance to individual athletes on and off the court
Pathway & Strategic Planning

Collaborate with U18 and Youth League coaches to align player development pathways

Identify and nurture emerging talent from within the junior and domestic ranks
-
Work with club leadership to set long-term strategic goals for the senior women's program

Support recruitment, retention, and performance tracking of athletes within the program
Game Preparation & Performance

Prepare detailed scouting reports and game-day strategies

Execute in-game decision-making, including rotations, timeouts, and adjustments

Analyse and report on team and individual performance metrics
-
Represent South Adelaide professionally at all NBL1 Central league events
Club & Community Engagement

Be a visible and active leader across the broader South Adelaide club environment

Support and mentor junior female coaches across our district and domestic programs

Participate in club events, workshops, and fundraising initiatives

Maintain strong relationships with players, families, and club stakeholders
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
-
Minimum Level 2 Basketball Australia coaching accreditation (or international equivalent)
-
Proven coaching experience at a senior representative or semi-professional level
-
Demonstrated success in team leadership, athlete development, and high-performance delivery
-
Sound understanding of modern basketball systems, analytics, and development trends

Strong communication, organisational, and leadership skills
-
Current Working with Children Check

Ability to commit to the full NBL1 season schedule (games, training, travel, and events)
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
-
Prior experience coaching at NBL1 level or equivalent
-
Background in youth athlete development and coach education
-
Experience in talent identification, athlete welfare, and performance planning

Well-connected within the South Australian and national basketball community
