Following a near sell-out opening event, South Adelaide Basketball continues its Behind the Game Speaker Series with one of the most respected figures in Australian basketball.

Hosted by club legend Scott Ninnis, this series brings our community closer to the people who have shaped the game, through honest, relaxed and engaging conversations.

Special Guest: Brett Maher OLY

Few players have had the impact or longevity of Brett Maher.

Debuting with the Adelaide 36ers in 1992, Brett went on to play 524 games, becoming the club’s longest-serving player and one of its most respected leaders.

Appointed captain in 1997, he led the 36ers through one of their most successful periods, winning NBL Championships in 1998, 1999 and 2002.

His performances on the biggest stage saw him awarded:
• Larry Sengstock Medal (Grand Final MVP) in 1999 and 2002
• 6× Adelaide 36ers Club MVP
• All-NBL First Team selections in 2000, 2003 and 2006

International Career

Brett represented Australia with distinction, playing 180 games for the Boomers and competing in three Olympic Games:

• Atlanta 1996 (4th)
• Sydney 2000 (4th)
• Athens 2004

He was also part of the 1998 World Championship team and was named Australian International Player of the Year (2001).

Legacy

Brett’s contribution to the game has been recognised across every level:

• NBL Hall of Fame (2018)
• Basketball Australia Hall of Fame (2018)
• Adelaide 36ers Hall of Fame (2020)
• Basketball SA Hall of Fame (2020)

His jersey is retired, and the home court of the Adelaide 36ers now carries his name.
