Behind the Game with Scott Ninnis
Featuring Al Green
South Adelaide Basketball continues its Behind the Game Speaker Series, bringing our community closer to the people who helped shape basketball in South Australia and across the NBL.
Hosted by South Adelaide legend Scott Ninnis, this series offers a rare chance to hear directly from some of the game’s most respected names in a relaxed and intimate setting before our NBL1 home games at Mitchell Park.
Following successful events featuring Mark Davis and Brett Maher, our next guest is another true icon of Adelaide basketball.
Special Guest: Al Green
Al Green is widely regarded as one of the most talented and electrifying players to ever play in Australian basketball.
Originally from New York, Al arrived in Australia in the early 1980s and quickly became one of the stars of the NBL. Across a thirteen-season professional career, he played for the West Adelaide Bearcats, Adelaide 36ers, and Newcastle Falcons, building a reputation as one of the league’s elite guards.
His achievements include:
• 2× NBL Champion (1982, 1986)
• NBL Most Valuable Player (1982)
• NBL Scoring Champion (1984)
• 2× All-NBL First Team selection
• Adelaide 36ers Hall of Fame inductee
• Basketball Australia Hall of Fame inductee
Al was a key part of the legendary 1986 Adelaide 36ers championship team and remains one of the most respected figures from that era.
Beyond his playing career, Al has continued to leave his mark on basketball through coaching and mentoring, including serving as head coach of both the South Adelaide Panthers senior men’s and women’s programs.
Known for his personality, leadership, and unforgettable stories from decades around the game, this promises to be another fantastic evening for basketball fans of all ages.
Special Pre-Game Guest: DJ Vasiljevic
Attendees will also hear from former Adelaide 36ers guard DJ Vasiljevic during an exclusive pre-game chat before the night’s NBL1 action.
For younger players and basketball fans, this is a unique opportunity to hear directly from someone who has recently played at the professional level and experienced the modern NBL environment firsthand.
