Nine-time championship coach Andy Simons to lead South Adelaide women’s NBL1 program
South Adelaide Basketball Club has appointed Andy Simons as Head Coach of its women’s NBL1 program for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Simons joins the Panthers following a long coaching career with the Forestville Eagles. He led Forestville’s senior men from 2004 through 2026, after serving as Assistant Coach during the club’s 2003 championship season.
Across those roles, Simons’ teams won nine senior men’s championships from 13 grand final appearances. Eight of those titles came during his time as Head Coach. His record includes NBL1 Central championships in 2019, 2024 and 2026.
Simons also brings previous women’s coaching experience. He was Head Coach of Forestville’s senior women in both 1998 and 1999. Before moving into coaching, he played in the NBL, including with the Adelaide 36ers.
For South Adelaide, the two-year appointment is an opportunity to strengthen the women’s NBL1 program and support the club’s player pathways. Simons’ coaching approach centres on preparation, accountability, strong relationships and player development. The club is excited to bring that approach, together with his record of competing for championships, to its women’s program.
South Adelaide Basketball Club welcomes Andy and looks forward to introducing him to the Panthers community as preparations for 2027 begin.
