Published Thu 06 Nov 2025

South Adelaide Basketball Club’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) is just around the corner, and all members and supporters are invited to attend.

This is a great opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on the past year, and have a direct say in shaping the club’s future. Your attendance and input play a vital role in ensuring South Adelaide continues to grow both on and off the court.

📅 AGM Details

Date: Sunday, 9th November 2025
Time: Registration opens at 3:30 PM, meeting starts at 4:00 PM
Venue: Club Marion – Room 1 & 2 (Hills View West Function Room), Sturt Road, Marion

🗳️ Election of Office Bearers

At this year’s AGM, members will elect candidates to fill three key Management Committee positions:

  • President – 2-year term

  • Treasurer – 2-year term

  • Senior Program Manager – 2-year term

Nominations received so far:

  • President: June McKenzie (current President) and Scott Thur (nominee)

  • Treasurer: Matt Law (unopposed)

  • Senior Program Manager: Nominations will be accepted from the floor during the AGM.

🗳️ Voting Rights: Who Can Vote?

The South Adelaide Basketball Club Constitution outlines who is eligible to vote at the AGM. Voting rights apply to:

  • Non-playing financial members

  • Life Members

  • Senior Players

  • Parents or Guardians of Junior Members

For parents of junior players, please note that only the first-listed parent or guardian on the player’s registration form is entitled to vote.

This is confirmed in Clause 4.3.4.2 of the Constitution:

“Until a Junior Playing Member attains the age of 18 years, the parents/guardians of a Junior Playing Member enjoy the benefits of membership except that only the parent/guardian recorded on the registration form (or, if more than one, only the parent/guardian whose name first appears on the registration form) shall be entitled to vote at a Special or Annual General Meeting; and … no person is entitled to more than one vote at a Special or Annual General Meeting.”

In simpler terms:

  • Only the first-listed parent or guardian can vote on behalf of a junior player.

  • The second-listed parent does not have voting rights unless they meet another eligible category (e.g., senior player, life member, non-playing financial member).

South Adelaide Basketball Club staff will verify registration details during sign-in to ensure all eligible voters receive a ballot paper.

🔎 Clarifying Voting Rights

The club has been made aware of some outdated information circulating regarding voting eligibility for parents of junior members. Please note that these references relate to a previous version of the Constitution (June 2023).

The current Constitution, adopted by members in July 2023, introduced updated voting provisions for parents of junior players. These updated rules will apply at the 2025 AGM.

We encourage all members to refer to the most recent Constitution, which is available through the club.
